The Last Empire
Brotherhood of the High Hills
True Rangers of New Kels have a secret society of their own trading techniques and knowledge. This Brotherhood of the High Hills has few rules outside of the expectation of aid when called and generally not being an ass. In return the Ranger will learn the magic of their trade. A Ranger who is not in the Brotherhood will not lose the magic they have already learned but will not progress in spell casting until they return to good standing.
The Brotherhood is essentially good, looking out for man and beast alike. They see themselves as stewards of the wilderness making it safe for their trade, respecting their prey and other natural animals, eliminating unnatural threats to the natural order and maintaining a healthy space between the law of nature and the laws of man. A brother in need can usually put out a call for help and expect aid sooner than you’d think.
The Brotherhood’s history is lost in its profound lack of organization. It did exist in the Empire and likely even before. While they understand the principles of the Ancient Ways they may be of any religion. Unnatural creatures, especially those from other worlds, are their sworn enemy. They have an uneasy truce with the Fey due to their unique bond to the land.
